Central Seattle Greenways was founded in 2012, when we joined with others in the Seattle Neighborhood Greenways coalition to advocate for the creation of neighborhood greenways in our city and in our specific neighborhoods. But we pretty quickly got involved in many other efforts to make our streets safer and more comfortable for people walking, rolling, biking, and living in the Central District, Capitol Hill, and nearby neighborhoods. Over time, having “greenways” in our name became confusing, as our work involved so much more.

What’s changed? Our name. Our social media handles. Our domain. Our logo.
What hasn’t changed? Our belief that all people should be able to travel safely through our streets without depending on private vehicles. Our grassroots approach to community organizing and empowerment. Our passion for making our city a better place. Our membership and deep involvement in the citywide coalition (which is also changing its name — Seattle Neighborhood Greenways has become Seattle Streets Alliance).
